Steeltrac - Towing Trucks

Steeltrac is a Swedish company located between Malmö and Jönköping which has specialised in towing trucks for over 15 years. We manufacture, sell and service towing trucks - both battery-driven and hybrid driven - mainly for airports but also for other areas like bigger industries and train stations.

At the Interairport Europe fair at Munich Airport in October 2005, Steeltrac presented a new development of its well-known towing truck concept.

SAFE AND RELIABLE TOWTRUCKS

The towtruck exhibited at the Interairport Europe fair continues Steeltrac’s tradition of reliability, safety and drivers' comfort. The new design focuses on large, flat windows, which enable the driver to have a better overview. All instruments are on one central dashboard for easy access.

Similar to previous models, the chassis of the new towtruck has independent front suspension with helical springs. This suspension, along with the large 15in wheels at the front and rear, provides excellent driver comfort. The front wheels are also equipped with servo-assisted disc brakes.

HYDRAULICALLY TILTABLE TOWTRUCK CABINS

Low maintenance cost is essential for Steeltrac’s customers. The hydraulically tiltable cabin of Steektrac's new towtruck makes front-end service and maintenance easy -renewal of the disc brake pads can be done without even removing the front wheels! Door hinges are bolted to the door and cabin frame and thus can be easily exchanged in case of an accident. All these features combine to give longer operating time and less down time, which makes Steeltrac’s equipment more profitable.

BATTERY AND HYBRID-DRIVEN TOWING TRUCKS

The newly designed towing truck will be produced in three basic versions:

• The normal built version
• The low built version
• The hybrid version with a diesel-electric generator on board for extended operating range.

The generator on the hybrid is a standard 400V 3- phase unit, which utilises an onboard standard battery charger to charge the battery. The onboard charger is used to charge the battery during non-operating periods.

Both the non-hybrid versions can be equipped with an onboard mounted battery charger, which enables the operator to charge the battery at any suitable mains outlet.
