Using electric vehicles for bag tractors, belt loaders, cargo loaders, lavatory service trucks, and narrow-body aircraft tractors reduces most of those costs. Electric vehicles eliminate much of the uncertainty and offer cost reductions over internal combustion vehicles. Compared to the sky-rocketing cost of fuel, the price of electricity is much more stable. Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts and require much less maintenance than their internal combustion counterparts. Fewer moving parts means lower part-inventories, less operating capital tied up in those inventories, and that fewer spares are required. However, fast-charging technology opens a whole new opportunity to electrify fleets and achieve significant cost reductions on existing fleets. Fast-charging safely charges batteries in about a quarter of the time required to charge a battery using conventional chargers. The reduced charging time allows vehicles to operate 18 hours to 24 hours a day on a single battery by charging during staff breaks and lunches. There is therefore no need to change batteries or operate additional vehicles because of downtime while vehicles are charging.
