COOL BOOT Seals in Money in the Data Centre – New White Paper From Panduit

05 August 2008

London, UK - The new COOL BOOT™ air sealing grommet from Panduit helps to save up to €21,000 in the data centre according to a new white paper released by the company. By sealing cut-out spaces in tiles for under-floor cable routing, the COOL BOOT grommet reduces the amount of cooled air escaping into the data centre's hot aisles.

Industry data indicates that up to 60% of available data centre cooling capacity is wasted by airflow that bypasses the equipment it is intended to cool. Not only does this lead to increased utility costs, but also increased capital expenditure as further cooling apparatus is purchased to counteract the inefficiencies in the existing cooling system.

Boosting cooling capacity in this way is expensive; over €21,000 can be spent on extra utility costs and equipment (CRAH units). In the new Panduit white paper, "The Importance of Air Sealing Grommets for Improving Data Centre Cooling Efficiency", a return on investment (ROI) model associated with wasted cooled air shows the financial benefit of improving data-centre cooling efficiency by employing the new COOL BOOT air sealing grommet.

Jonathan Tinsley, solutions manager at Panduit, said, "Panduit engineers its solutions to achieve the lowest total cost of ownership; it is clear that air sealing grommets represent real cost savings in the data centre. By sealing in the cooled air where it is needed, the data centre manager not only saves utility costs and capital outlay to increase cooling capacity, but also on maintenance, repair and replacement of heat damaged equipment. By reducing the cooling needed for the data centre, carbon footprint is also reduced."
