Avianca automates their baggage handling with Hand Held Products wireless technology.

WM Wireless & Mobile, a Hand Held Products Colombian partner, and ImecTech Solutions joined efforts to deliver an automated solution for baggage processing at Avianca, the largest of Columbia's airlines. This solution covered the complete cycle from baggage check-in to baggage pickup at the final destination. Avianca uses Hand Held Products Dolphin 9500® portable terminals that interact with BagControl, operation software developed by ImecTech.
This solution improves the baggage flow by automatically capturing baggage pieces, mail and cargo identifications using a barcode printed on a bag tag. This process provides clients with accurate information and improves the operational security of the airline.
The solution implemented at Avianca is integrated in a transparent way using Condor, a reservations operation system created by British Airways. Baggage boarding is controlled using Dolphin 9500 portable terminals with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® technology operating on local networks.
