Situated on 34,000 acres or 53 square miles, Denver International Airport is one of the largest airports in the world and the gateway to the great American Rocky Mountains. Denver International is recognised worldwide for aviation safety, customer satisfaction and passenger convenience. At only eight years old, Denver International is the nation's fifth busiest airport and the tenth busiest in the world.
For the past two years, Zenitel USA has been working in conjunction with DIA on replacing an older system with the Zenitel AlphaCom system. The AlphaCom will interface with CCTV and access control for passenger and employee communications at 400 security card access doors throughout the terminal and concourses. An ACF 552/510 with over 400 stations and 100 spare stations for future expansion will be installed. All future concourses will utilise the STENTOFON communications equipment with two more concourses being built within the next five years.
"When we were looking for a replacement for the old system, we looked for a system that: was an industry standard and could be easily expandable as the airport continues to grow, was universal equipment used by other airports and security systems and, would adapt to our current security / CCTV equipment," said Terry Gould, Electronic Technician Supervisor for DIA.
"I spoke to other airports and engineering counterparts before making my decision. We found many airports use the STENTOFON system and security manufacturers have software interfaces for the system. There was one other competitor in the running but they could not adapt to our current equipment. I was also impressed with the customer support shown by Zenitel. Jeff Young and Bennie Cooper have been working with us the past two years to get this project together. If we had a question we received an answer within minutes," said Gould.
The sales team responsible for overseeing the sale and design of the project included Jeff Young, Zenitel Central Regional Manager, Bennie Cooper, Zenitel Applications Engineer and Zenitel Dealer, Rob Howard with Systems Integration Corporation.
