Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH (SPPAL) goes into operation in Germany on June 1, 2015.

The business with mail, parcel and baggage handling systems, currently known in the market as Logistics and Airport Solutions, will continue as a new independent company under the Siemens umbrella. The carve-out in Germany is a decisive step to ensure the company’s stability and that it retains for the long term its leading position as a provider of technology and solutions for logistics processes.

CEO Michael Reichle: "I am pleased that we now have the necessary flexibility to shape the future of the new Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH. We are doing everything we can to seize opportunities in the fast growing parcel and airport markets. In doing so, our focus is always on maximizing customer benefit."

As an independent company, SPPAL is structured so that it can operate more quickly and efficiently in a competitive environment dominated by medium-sized companies. SPPAL has a sound financial footing to strengthen its market position. For example, through the takeover of AXIT GmbH some months ago, SPPAL has been able to significantly expand its market position in cloud-based logistics IT.

SPPAL’s main customers include numerous large international airports as well as postal and parcel service providers worldwide. The company has been active in over 60 countries for many years now.

A number of strategically important orders in the last few months testify to SPPAL’s strong market position. One example is a contract from the American carrier South- west Airlines to build a new baggage handling system at Los Angeles International Airport. Another is in Singapore where SPPAL was contracted by Singapore Post to equip a new logistics hub with an integrated parcel sorting system.
