Datalogic offer solutions from the check-in desks to the baggage reclaim halls, where each piece of baggage is subject to a series of screening operations. In airport baggage handling applications there are two key areas in which Datalogic can implement AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Capture) to increase security and make old baggage operation more effective: hold baggage screening and automated baggage sorting.

As an alternative to barcode technology, Datalogic can offer RFID solutions to track and identify luggage in cart and tray systems. Additionally, the Datalogic product portfolio includes a wide range of mobile and wireless barcode readers for secure and reliable baggage reconciliation operations. Real-time data access means that Datalogic products enhance not only reconciliation process productivity and management, but also greatly increase flight security.

In the operation of hold baggage screening and automated baggage sorting, Datalogic applies the DS8100A laser barcode reader, primarily characterised by ASTRA and PACKTRACK, exclusive Datalogic patented technologies, and the SC6000 system controllers. ASTRA empowers the reading capability with a multiple-laser optic system. PACKTRACK increases the conveyor productivity and assures maximum sorting reliability, minimising the gap between two bags.

This technology enables the scanner to measure the real position of the code and assign the code specifically to each baggage. Using these particular solutions, Datalogic also guarantees time reduction between baggage check-in and aircraft take off and high reading performance, even in case of low-quality barcodes or damaged labels. Thanks to its intrinsic redundancy, in the event of a technical problem with a single scanner, the system continues to operate, guaranteeing the productive flow.

HOLD BAGGAGE SCREENING SYSTEM

By combining an AIDC tracking system with Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) machines, it is possible to automatically link screening data with each piece of baggage and passenger data, making this process entirely effective and eliminating any risk of manipulation. Barcode scanners automatically read the individual barcode tag on each piece of baggage before it enters the HBS machine. Furthermore, the scan dimensioning avoids possible damage to the system from oversized luggage.

The modular and flexible design of these solutions makes full integration with existing baggage handling solutions straightforward.

BAGGAGE HANDLING SYSTEM

With the help of our automatic barcode scanners, capable of reading the data on the label of each item, it is possible to process high volumes of passenger bags in a short time. Baggage which has not been processed through the HBS procedure is automatically identified and diverted away from the main conveyor lines.

By eliminating manual operations as far as possible, the processing time for each piece of baggage is decreased so that the time between check-in and take off can also be reduced.
