FKI Logistex has chosen ALSTEF to be its partner for the baggage handling system at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport’s international terminal.

After an international call for tenders, FINAVIA placed its order with FKI Logistex for the design and realization of the new baggage handling system. The state-of-the-art system will consist of two energy saving LS-4000E sorters and a 6.6km CrisBag™ system to enable the high-speed transportation and sorting between terminals. There will also be an early baggage storage system with a capacity of 1,500 bags, as well as a large conveyor system.

ALSTEF will be supplying the conveyor system, which will comprise more than 1,000 modules, 40 vertical sorting units and three departure carousels. In addition, there will be an associated automation system, including an optimized control mode, which reduces power consumption. The system will provide the necessary connections between the check-in desks, the CrisBag system, the 11 screening machines and the two sorters. It will also include four transfer bag drop stations and two out of gauge lines.

The project will be carried out over five phases, including the automation system upgrade in terminals one and two. The system will be operational in 2010.

This contract demonstrates that such key players as FKI Logistex and Finavia clearly recognize the considerable expertise of ALSTEF and its experience in delivering ‘turnkey’ conveyor systems.
