With the installation of its BRAINS®, low-level controls, and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, UFIS Airport Innovation has an integral role in the baggage handling systems and logistics operation at Helsinki Vantaa Airport, Helsinki, Finland.
UFIS AI's BRAINS is installed in all terminals at Vantaa. It provides the users a powerful tool to control the entire baggage handling system. Three key BRAINS modules are in use - Routing, Carousel Allocation, and Automatic Departure Planner. Auto scanners control the sorting at Vantaa with bin sorting being done in Terminal 1, 2, and 3 and carousel sorting in Terminal 4.
UFIS AI was also responsible for the low-level controls in the baggage handling system. A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system is installed in Terminals 1, 3, and 4. Ten PLCs control the baggage flow at 55 check-in counters (six check-in islands in each of three terminals) and six arrival carousels.
