Hauppauge, NY, 30 October 2006 - Vicon Industries, a leading designer and producer of video surveillance systems, today announced that the Fiber Patrol division of Optellios has entered into a partnership with Vicon Industries. Vicon’s ViconNet digital video management system will be incorporated into Fiber Patrol’s intrusion detection systems. Fiber Patrol is the security product division of Optellios.
Fiber Patrol provides fiber-optic intrusion detection systems for perimeter and point-to-point monitoring. Using a fiber-optic cable sensor, the system detects and reports the location of the physical disturbances occurring anywhere along the length of the sensor. In a typical application, the fiber-optic sensor cable is attached to a fence or buried underground. Any attempt to enter the protected area triggers an alarm that alerts security personnel. The combination of a Fiber Patrol system with a ViconNet system creates an active video surveillance system; a video surveillance system that reacts to an alarm situation rather than serving as a passive observation system.
When an intruder attempts to gain unauthorized access to a facility protected by Fiber Patrol, an alarm condition is triggered that alerts security personnel and indicates where on the fence the incident took place. When combined with ViconNet, this alarm will trigger video surveillance by focusing a camera on the point of disturbance, thus capturing and recording video of the intruder. A key benefit of this combined system is that fewer individuals are required to monitor a greater number of video feeds, as any suspicious activity will be brought to their attention. The video captured by the ViconNet-enabled cameras allows security personnel to immediately verify if an alarm condition represents a real threat so that they may promptly and appropriately respond.
Multiple sites can be monitored simultaneously and, because the integrated systems employ Internet Protocol (IP), the monitoring sites can be located anywhere in the world as long as they have an Internet connection. The ViconNet system enables the use of multiple cameras, recording in real time, thereby enabling multiple views of the perimeter. This feature can be used to create a redundant system, ensuring that video monitoring is always possible even if a camera link is unavailable or has its view obstructed. The ability to search recorded video and view it alongside live video enhances the usability of the system when a threat condition has been triggered.
“The Optellios integration further emphasizes our priority to establish relationships with forward-looking and technology-driven companies that put quality and customer needs first. We see it as a great fit for both of our companies and a unique offering for the marketplace", states Bret McGowan, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Vicon Industries.
Vicon’s ViconNet enterprise-wide digital video management platform encompasses unified system design, global management and a scalable open architecture. Vicon’s end-to-end product philosophy, as well as a developed integration program initiative with the leading access control and video analytic companies, was a key factor in Optellios’ decision to make Vicon one of its preferred vendors.
“Vicon is a great company to work with”, says Jay Patel, CEO of Optellios. “They have a wide selection of products and their systems perfectly complement ours to create a comprehensive intrusion detection system with active video surveillance.”
