Biometric Authentication Security Portal.

01 May 2007

Newly developed software has been introduced to allow biometric authentication devices to be integrated within the Circlelock high-security portal to create the most secure entrance system currently offered by Boon Edam.

The high-security Circlelock portal, equipped with StereoVision 3-D security system, already offers an extremely reliable means of ensuring a single authorised person entry at unmanned pedestrian access points, but this new option provides a three-stage security process beyond anything previously offered:

  1. Entering the Circlelock requires authorisation from an access control system
  2. Once the authorised user is inside the Circlelock, the StereoVision system verifies only one person is present
  3. Once the StereoVision system has ensured only one person is present, the biometric device is activated to allow the user to be authenticated

Passage is only granted when the single authorised user has been authenticated, thus ensuring that fraudulent entry is not possible even if the authorised user is forced to give up their access control card or attempts to help another person through.

Biometric authentication is being increasingly used for everything from securing memory sticks and laptops to sophisticated access control systems at border control gates and law enforcement.

"Rather than offering a specific biometric technology, we have carefully designed a platform that allows clients to retain their existing system or choose a system from those already on the market that matches their individual requirements," said David Bunkall, director of group marketing for Royal Boon Edam Group Holding.

The comprehensive Security Access range of the Boon Edam Group includes security doors and portals, waist-high turnstiles, pedestrian security lanes, full-height turnstiles and high-impact vehicle barriers.
